Our Life Science Lab confirmed that the appropriate addition of NMN in the medium where human cells where being cultured increased both the expression of the longevity genes (also called antiaging genes, such as sirtuin1) at a protein level and also the number of mitochondria that convert nutrients into energy within the cells.
This may be considered scientific evidence that our NMN makes full use of the vast variety of genes recorded in our DNA through the regulation by sirtuin 1, while it also conveys energy to every corner of the cell and keeps normal the intracellular functions at the same time.
These results strongly suggest that NMN may reinforce the immune system, as it acts on the cells of the immune system itself, such as the T cells of the lymphatic system.
To explore how NMN could be applied for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, we have started experiments to observe if the functions of CD4+ helper T cells and CD8+ killer T cells, both essential for the immune system, are properly controlled by NMN.
Many research institutions and hospitals recommend strengthening immunity as a countermeasure against COVID-19. Many people think that, in order to strengthen your immune system in your daily life, it is important to sleep well, watch your diet, do moderate exercise, and reduce your stress levels. It has been speculated this lifestyle may have a certain effect on improving immunity, but from a scientific point of view there is hardly any evidence to back it up.
So far, the ingestion of our NMN nutraceuticals was meant to fight a situation that cannot be considered either “health” or “illness”, a situation we could maybe call “pre-symptomatic”, caused by the gradual and continuous decrease of our physical functions, and we have consistently analyzed and implemented the in vivo mechanisms that contribute to a healthy longevity.
In the midst of these ongoing efforts and facing the current pandemic of the new coronavirus, we are accelerating our research aimed at improving the immune system to prevent viral infections and severe illness.
In addition, with the cooperation of Dr. Hiroaki Kitano, CEO of the non-profit organization The Systems Biology Institute, we will work to verify the inhibitory and preventive effects on allergy, inflammation, and cytokine storm (severe shock-like conditions caused by a runaway immune system) focused on lung disease. Cytokine storms are strongly associated with the severity of the pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus, according to a recent paper on The Lancet, one of the world's five most important medicine journals.
Also, in collaboration with medical research institutes, we have decided to conduct new clinical trials. These pilot studies will observe the improvement caused by the intake of NMN in: various parameters related to immunity, such as the number of CD8+ killer T cells in the blood of humans; various parameters related to the intestinal environment, such as identification (species) and number of cells present in the intestinal flora of humans.
Regarding these clinical studies, our purpose is to analyze the measurement results in detail and to obtain scientific evidence of the improvement of immunity, and also of the increase in the potential strength in our bodies, which contributes to prevent and improve the “pre-symptomatic situation” and protect against infectious diseases.
We will disclose the results of our research and intend to make them available to research institutions.
